IRON Man Race!!! Needs Help

IRON Man Race!!! Needs Help

Mark Weiss with the riding academy need some help with:
The IROM Man race this weekend read below!

There is a pre-race meeting tomorrow at noon near the Tempe Town Lake Marina. I know it's short notice, hopefully new volunteers are able to attend.

The race is Sunday. We need to be on station at 6:00 am. We will be done by 4:00 pm. It's a staggered start for us, so some will be done earlier, none should be needed beyond 4:00 pm.

Riders needed should have motorcycles with good passenger accommodations. The riders should be very comfortable riding with a passenger and in occasionally heavy traffic. The riders need to be extremely safety conscious. We'll be riding in the 15 to 30 mph range most of the time and the athletes are not always very aware of what is going on around them. They are very focused on their race, not on traffic.

The bicycle course is three laps of a 37 mile loop, basically from Mill and Rio Salado to Beeline and Shea, three times. Snacks and water are supplied because we get to utilize the on-course aid stations.

This is the last Ironman for Arizona in the foreseeable future. Development and traffic have made the event too difficult to continue. This will be the easiest Ironman you've ever done.

We are still short six Motos. At this moment we have seven. Ironman is expecting ten race officials and three media.

Tomorrow’s pre-race safety meeting will be at Noon at Tempe Town Lake, not far from the marina. The address of the area is 550 E Tempe Town Lake, Tempe. We are actually going to be a bit farther west of there, but it’s a parking lot, so not a real address.

From the 202, exit at Scottsdale road and turn north. You want the very first westbound turn so that you can ride around behind the Carvana tower. Follow that road around and back under the 202. Past the 202, take the first right turn into the marina parking area. Continue straight and look for signs that tell you to Not Enter because the area is for Ironman only. That’s us. Ride in and look for motorcycles. I’m not certain which parking lot we will be in. The first one or the farthest west. Whichever one puts us in a location where we won’t be run over by supply trucks will work. If I’m there first, you are looking for an orange Buell Ulysses. It’s pretty easy to spot.

Bring with:

A copy of your driver’s license (both sides please)

A copy of your current motorcycle insurance and registration

The volunteer rider/driver form (I will attach a copy to this message

We will receive:

Volunteer shirts

Volunteer “Race Support” windshield decals

A Command Center call card with directions for calling for needs or for making a Help call.

Other stuff?

A briefing from Ironman staff to cover safety and procedural details.

We may meet with some of the officials and media staff too.

Sunday morning we will meet on the south curb of Rio Salado just to the east of Mill Ave. The best way is usually to take the 101 to Rio Salado and ride west from there. The Intersections west of McClintock will be closed early Sunday. Be prepared to stop and explain to the Police officers where you are going. The windshield decal and the call card can help if you are stopped. The roads usually close at 6:00 am. It’s tricker to get in after that.
