Six riders left DWHD for a run up Devil’s Highway, overnight in Springerville, and then back home through the Salt River Canyon. We left Mesa in mild temps and made our way to Globe for breakfast at the Copper Bistro. We continued to Safford where we checked the weather. We saw some dark clouds and rain ahead of us, but it cleared out of our route allowing a dry ride to Clifton. We took pictures at the Train Station for both the Chapter Discover Arizona Challenge and HOG 50 Rides, One nation Challenge.
Chuck and Carl turned back home from Clifton. The rest of the group continued through the Morenci mine area and onto Devil’s Highway. A few ominous clouds floated overhead, but we managed to miss the rain. We stopped for pictures a couple of times along the way.
We stayed at Reed’s Motor Lodge in Springerville. It was a short walk to a very good dinner at the XA Bar and Grill, with lots of laughs and fun conversation.
The next morning was beautiful, sunny skies, light winds, and mild temps. We rode to Show Low and stopped for breakfast. Then it was a leisurely ride through the Salt River Canyon and back into the Valley.
It was a great weekend!
